The research is clear. Children who read during the summer improve their reading proficiency, while children who neglect books over the summer months are likely to experience “summer slide,” which can be a loss of up to three months of the reading progress a student made during the school year, by some accounts. Plus, we know the practice of reading has the added benefit of increasing cultural literacy, developing general knowledge and empathy, and shaping worldview.

So, then, it’s summer. That means it’s time to read.

RCLS is here to help you facilitate your child’s summer reading––to eliminate the “summer slide.” RCLS Summer Library Hours, recommended Summer Reading Programs, and recommended book lists are intended to keep your child reading all summer long.

RCLS Summer Library Hours

The library will be open from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm on the following days:

   June 11

   June 25

   July 9

   July 23

   August 1

   August 6

You can check out books, play some games, and take Accelerated Reader tests to begin earning points for the 2019-20 school year. Also, come to the library and get a surprise each time.

For questions about the summer library hours or Accelerated Reader program, call the school office or email Mr. Nelson.
