Service

Because Christ came to serve, so we actively seek to be in service to each other and our communities. RCLS offers a number of ways in which students may serve and practice social justice. Annual opportunities include:

  • classroom service projects
  • overflow (service) hours, which are required for grades 5-8
  • chapel family service projects
  • financial support for chapel mission projects
  • regular, specified projects

Some of the organizations/projects that RCLS students have supported during the 2017-18 school year include the United Way coat drive, Toys for Tots, the Ronald McDonald House, and hurricane relief for a K-8 Lutheran school in Houston.

During the 2016-17 school year, we shared the cost of sending a mission team to Vyborg, Russia. Our 2017-18 project will support the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, an organization that translates and prints Bible storybooks and Small Catechisms in over 80 languages.

Overflow Hours

One of the core values of Rochester Central Lutheran School is Christian service. In an effort to teach the joy of Christian service and to give students a chance to experience the servant heart, RCLS has implemented a program called Overflow Hours as based upon 1 Thessalonians 3:12. “May the Lord make your love increase and OVERFLOW for each other and for everyone else.” As God overflows His love to us, we then overflow His love to others. Overflow hours provide an opportunity for students to participate in community, church, and school service hours and prepare for lifelong Christian service.
