Our middle school daughters began their journey at RCLS in preschool. They have moved up the hallways, growing not just in stature, but as students, as friends, as mentors to younger students and most importantly, as Christians because of RCLS. Already eight years in at RCLS our school continues to be a nurturing, caring, positive, and Christ centered environment.
I recall clearly our very first parent teacher conference for our 2 older daughters, both in Mrs Wetzel’s class. She welcomed us to her desk and asked to begin with prayer. She began thanking God for each of our girls -individually and then continued specifically listing the blessings they brought to the class. As she led the prayer I could feel her holding back tears. There was no doubt how much she genuinely cared for OUR children - HER students. We felt so fortunate for her role in the lives of our daughters as they began their school career!
This feeling has continued through the years and across the staff. The teaching staff from the elementary grades still follows their past students, regularly checking in with families; the office staff knows our names; the food service director catches our basketball games - everyone cares. There is truly a sense that everyone is looking out for everyone else and invested in helping each student and family be the most successful they can be.
The sense of genuine care is felt beyond the staff as well. Our daughters have made wonderful friendships, as have we as parents - friendships that I am sure will last long after our years at RCLS - friendships that are meaningful and rewarding, encouraging, and fun! We anticipated and even expected that would be the case for our children but had not considered when we enrolled our daughters that we as parents would form such wonderful friendships as well. We have always felt so welcomed and found it very easy to get to know other families. The many different school functions have fostered these relationships - whether it be on field trips, attending music concerts, drama productions, or most notably sporting activities. Basketball has been a wonderful experience for our entire family. RCLS has a beautiful facility, strong parental involvement, Christian sportsmanship, and just an active athletic program that has contributed to creating wonderful memories that I know our daughters will carry with them for life!
Academically, we feel our girls have been appropriately challenged as well. They have the opportunity to learn math at their grade level or at an advanced level. They have integrated learning across subjects - working on science fair projects during both English and Science periods. They love the amazing science lab with many live animals and the challenges science experimenting brings! They enjoy the extra curriculum opportunities as well. Jazz band, pop choir, and theater productions top the list. Our daughters enjoy the technology offerings too. They use their Chromebooks to learn the latest in the field and have the ability to email teachers directly - keeping communication with teachers, students, and parents very open and easy. Small class size, approachable teachers, and a very connected and approachable principal make open dialogue a breeze.
We have heard our daughters say on many occasions – “We are really glad we go to RCLS”. They understand that RCLS is unique - it is not like other schools. And that makes them proud and thankful for the chance to be part of it. Quite simply, they think it is the best. And, as parents, we agree!
