My favorite Bible verse is Phil 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice”.  When I consider my life, I know that the Lord has given me many things over which to rejoice but He has given me the best reason of all to rejoice by sending His Son to save me from my sins.   Another favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “I know the plans I have for you…”   God has shown me that He has wonderful plans for me and has worked in my life in many wonderful ways, and one of the most special was His plan to have me serve here at RCLS in His ministry to His children who attend this school.

This year I find myself returning to first grade, which is a grade that I taught for 8 years in Wisconsin before we moved to Rochester.  I enjoy this age level because we get to play as we learn, and learning should be fun.

I knew when I was a first grader growing up on a farm that I wanted to be a teacher like my teacher at my rural parochial school in Wilbert, MN.  After graduating from high school I went directly to Concordia College in St. Paul (now Concordia University, St. Paul), and after attending summer school sessions, I was able to graduate in just three years.  I began teaching in St. Louis, Missouri, while my husband attended Concordia Seminary there.  I taught for 5 years while Bill was going to school to become a pastor and also did a year of graduate school to get his master’s degree.  During that time I earned my PHT (Putting Hubby Through).  J

After being a stay-at-home mom for 13 years, I served as a part-time Director of Christian Education at a Lutheran church in Columbia Heights, MN, for 8 years.  When he took a call to Wisconsin, I was able to serve as the first grade teacher for another 8 years in a rural Lutheran school in Bonduel, which was near to our town of Shawano.

When Bill took the call to be senior pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church here in Rochester, I was able to substitute teach for two years until I was asked to teach 5th grade, part time.  Then I was a full-time 2nd grade teacher, followed by a year of teaching 4th grade half time, a year of half-time in 2nd grade, and last year as full-time in second grade. My service at RCLS has been varied and I have enjoyed each grade level.  It is a real joy to teach here with the great children and the wonderful people who make up the teaching staff and support staff for our school.

Bill and I have 3 married children and two grandsons.  When I have spare time I love to read.
